Spinal diseases can lead to threatening consequences with pain, paralysis, and paraplegic syndromes, especially due to the involvement of the structures running in the spine, such as the spinal cord and nerves. In most cases, however, diseases of the spine are easily treatable degenerative changes. However, accidents or tumors can also endanger the stability of the spine and lead to functional disorders. More rarely, inflammations or hemorrhages are the cause of spinal disorders.

Surgical methods include both decompressive and stabilizing procedures, which are performed minimally invasive whenever possible.

In the case of special diseases, if necessary, therapy is carried out in close interdisciplinary cooperation with all specialized disciplines at Magdeburg University Hospital. Case discussions are held regularly as part of the interdisciplinary spine center.
